Red Light Therapy

  • If you have struggled with eye pain, discomfort, or simply desire to prevent eye conditions, you may have heard of red light therapy.

  • It is a non-invasive therapeutic treatment that utilizes low-level red and near-infrared light to interact with cells and tissues within the body. As a form of photobiomodulation, it improves the function of a cell’s mitochondria and increases energy production.

  • When absorbed by your body’s cells, the red and near-infrared light activates the body’s enzymes, leading to an increase in adenosine triphosphate (ATP) production, which is the primary energy source for cells.

  • This boost in cellular energy has a cascading effect on various cellular processes, influencing factors such as cell metabolism, production, and overall function.

Macular Degeneration

  • A 2021 review suggests that red light therapy is a viable source for the slow improvement of age-related macular degeneration.

  • This means that red light can improve the harmful effects of AMD, such as the decline of the mitochondria and the increase of oxidative stress, which is an imbalance of antioxidants in the body that causes tissue damage.

  • With red light therapy there is a direct increase of mitochondria func- tion in the eye and a decrease of drusen, which is the fatty compounds, protein, and debris that builds up underneath the retina and increases the risk of AMD.

UltraLux Light Therapy

  • Low level Red Light Therapy provides mitochondrial therapeutics for the retina. It has been associated with an increase in the release of nitric oxide, a signaling molecule that plays a role in vasodilation (widening of blood vessels).

  • By promoting blood vessel dilation, red light therapy helps improve blood flow within the eyes, potentially reducing eye pressure associated with glaucoma.

  • To treat glaucoma or to properly take preventative measures, refer to the ‘General Red Light Treatment for Eye Health.’

  • Use a red light device with dual wavelengths of red light at 630 nm and infrared light at 830 nm.

The Red Wrap is specifically designed for use on areas like the arms, legs, neck, and waist, targeting pain and inflammation through direct contact for deeper penetration. It is not suitable for use on your face or eyes.  For facial skin therapy, consider the UltraLux Red Mask or the Anti-Aging Mask. For the eyes, the UltraLux Red Pro or Red Mini panels are better suited.
